Leeds United: ‘Majestic’ Marius made of White stuff
10:00am Friday 1st November 2013 in Sport
Marius Zaliukas hopes a “Rolls Royce” display will motor him into a Leeds debut against Yeovil tomorrow.
The Lithuanian is knocking on the door for an Elland Road start as the inconsistent Whites look to pick up the pieces from last week’s dismal derby flop at Huddersfield.
Zaliukas made his second appearance for the development squad in midweek at Barnsley – a performance that coach Neil Redfearn described as “majestic”.
Redfearn said: “He looks like a Rolls Royce to me. He’s got another two or three gears to go up I reckon.”
After leaking three at the John Smith’s Stadium, boss Brian McDermott is pondering a switch at the back. Zaliukas hopes that will mean a first senior call but he is happy to put his faith in the manager.
“The biggest thing about coming to Leeds was probably the gaffer,” said the former Hearts centre half, who also went on trial with Rangers and QPR.
“He showed the most interest in me and he was the one who was always in touch. I liked that.
“It’s for the gaffer to decide (if I play) but my aim is always to be in the first team.”
Loan signing Dexter Blackstock is also pushing for a start after coming off the bench and scoring with his first touch.
Yeovil head north in rejuvenated spirits after beating Nottingham Forest last week – their first win since opening day.
