Joe Root is elevated to ECB central contract alongside Tim Bresnan but Jonny Bairstow misses out
Joe Root is the new name on the England and Wales Cricket Board's central contract list after 11 players were handed 12-month deals today.
Root and Yorkshire team-mate Tim Bresnan fly out to Australia tomorrow for the defence of the Ashes with their immediate future under control of the England management, but Jonny Bairstow remains fully contracted to Yorkshire.
Root replaces Eoin Morgan from the most recent list, although the other ten names are the same.
Outgoing national selector Geoff Miller said: “Contracts are on-going recognition for those players who have regularly been selected for England and have performed consistently, as well as those players we feel are likely to play an important role for England over the next year.
"Congratulations to Joe Root. This reflects the important role Joe has played for England since making his international debut last year, and will I'm sure continue to play across all formats."
Central contracts: Jimmy Anderson, Ian Bell, Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad, Alastair Cook, Steven Finn, Kevin Pietersen, Matt Prior, Joe Root, Graeme Swann, Jonathan Trott.
