Ian Stuart on the run for Birkenshaw fundraising
Birkenshaw stalwart Ian Stuart has decided that actions speak louder than words as he looks to help the club raise money to improve their facilities.
The club have missed out on funding for a new changing room at their East Bierley ground, where the current building has plastic sheeting covering holes in sections of the roof.
Club members rallied round to paint and repair what they could in a bid to get another year’s life out of their headquarters.
But they have now decided to try and raise the money needed themselves, both as a club and also a community.
Committee man Stuart has decided to help out through sponsorship from his run in the Dublin Marathon later this month – but there is a twist in the tale.
“I normally run for the kids charity REACT but this time I think there is a real need for better changing facilities for Birkenshaw, a club I have been involved with for almost 25 years,” he said.
“But instead of just the normal sponsor money, we have decided to put a little twist to it – predict the time that I finish the course in.
“So a £5 donation will give that person a chance to win a prize of £100 for the nearest guess. I have already had almost £400 pledged – and that was within minutes on facebook.”
There is also a ladies night planned for this coming Saturday at Birkenshaw Liberal Club, plus a race night next month.
Anyone wishing to donate or to have a guess at Stuart’s time can send details via the club’s website http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/birkenshawarlfc/contact-form/, or sponsor forms are available at the liberal club.
Birkenshaw have an open age side in the Pennine League and three junior sides, with nearly all the youngsters living within walking distance of the club.
