Danny Addy is relishing the prospect of representing Scotland at the World Cup after revealing how new Bulls team-mate Dale Ferguson helped bring him into the squad.

Addy, who enjoyed a fine campaign for the Bulls and played in every single game, earned the call into Steve McCormack’s party due to having a Scottish grandmother.

The 22-year-old from Pontefract spoke to Scotland international Ferguson about his ancestry and before he knew it he was in the 23-man squad.

Addy said: “I was chatting to Dale about the World Cup and how I was eligible to play for Scotland.

“My nan on my dad’s side is a full Jock and it just went from there – I got asked to play and I was interested so I’m obviously delighted to be in the squad.

"It’s a great opportunity to keep on playing, get my name out there and show people what I can do. Hopefully I’ll be able to get into the team.”

Addy performed admirably in the halves and back row this season and is one of six uncapped players in Scotland’s squad.

He is looking forward to playing with newly-crowned Man of Steel Danny Brough, who will skipper the Bravehearts and is likely to be partnered in the halves by Brisbane Broncos playmaker Peter Wallace.

Huddersfield ace Brough enjoyed an outstanding season as the Giants finished top of the table for the first time in 81 years.

“Danny is a great player and to win the Man of Steel was a massive achievement,” said Addy.

“I’m looking forward to hopefully playing with him and having him as our captain.

“But I haven’t got a clue what position I’ll play in – I’ll just play anywhere, like I do at Bradford.”

Addy will go into camp with Scotland during the next week before playing a warm-up game against Papua New Guinea at Featherstone on Saturday, October 19.

Scotland open their World Cup campaign against Tonga at Derwent Park in Workington on October 30, play Italy at the same venue on November 3 and USA at Salford City Stadium on November 7.

Involvement for Addy would cap a fine season in which he earned a new two-year deal with the Bulls.

He added: “It’s been a good campaign, with me playing every game and then getting a new two-year deal.

“I’m really excited about playing for Scotland now. Hopefully we can win our group and get through to the quarter-finals.”
