Gary Jones has urged “magician” Kyel Reid to keep casting a spell on City’s League One rivals.

Reid’s sensational goal against Walsall was his third in six starts to keep Phil Parkinson’s flyers firmly embedded in the early play-off chase.

Jones is not surprised to see winger Reid back to his best after sitting out the start of the campaign.

The City skipper said: “What a goal from Kyel, it was an incredible strike. We know he has got that in his locker.

“He’s been absolutely fantastic the last few weeks and hopefully that continues.

“Sometimes he’ll be frustrating – he’ll admit that himself – but on his day he can produce something like that, which is quite magical.

“It gives everyone such a big lift when you’ve got a player in the team who can do that on a Saturday afternoon. It’s a nice luxury to have.”

Fourth-placed City have already established a five-point cushion in the top six after winning their last three, including two on their travels.

Jones added: “I keep saying it’s only a start but it’s a great start. If somebody had offered us this before the season had kicked off, we’d have snapped their hand off, definitely.

“We had a meeting a few weeks ago about our away form and we’ve won two out of two since.

“We had a bit of a heart-to-heart about what we needed to do. The gaffer stressed how we’ve got to play as the home team even when we are away. I thought we did that fantastically well against Walsall.”
