Payback time as Thackley thumped by Albion Sports
Albion Sports exacted revenge on neighbours Thackley last night when they knocked the Dennyboys out of the West Riding County Cup at the first hurdle.
The home side were behind midway through the first half when skipper Asif Hussain netted from the penalty spot after a handball in the area. Former Terriers striker Delroy Facey added a second before the interval.
The icing on the cake was a second-half hat-trick from Levi Maturine in his first start for the club following a handful of substitute appearances.
Thackley had beaten Albion 5-1 at Throstle Nest when the clubs met in the Northern Counties East Premier Division recently so it was a sweet victory.
The visitors bossed the chance count in the goalless first half but Sedge came out with renewed zest in the second half and broke the deadlock through substitute Matthew Bugg slid home a through ball to open the scoring just before the hour.
There was a dramatic conclusion to the tie with two late goals. The Cobbydalers levelled through Michael Hall, who was also a substitute, but almost from the restart Sedge’s Joe Hitch struck the winner.
Tonight it is the turn of Eccleshill United to try to reach round two as they host Armthorpe Welfare.
