Francis Cummins spoiled for choice over Bradford Bulls captaincy
Bulls coach Francis Cummins is remaining open-minded about who will wear the captain’s armband next season but insisted: “We have plenty of leaders anyway.”
Hookers Heath L’Estrange and Matt Diskin have shared the responsibility for the past two seasons.
The pair were appointed as joint-captains by Mick Potter following the departure of Andy Lynch to Hull FC at the end of the 2011 campaign.
New recruit Garreth Carvell could come into the frame to take the role but Cummins has pointed to the experience of several senior men within his squad.
The Bulls boss said: “We will work out what’s best for the group and where we take it.
“Garreth is new to the squad and will probably be later starting pre-season than most of the other players if he makes England’s World Cup squad.
“They are the leaders of the group anyway and I expect Garreth to come with that experience and be willing to have an input into the squad as well as stamping himself on the team.
“Whether he needs to be captain or not, we’ll work that one out.”
Cummins is aiming to make two more signings for next season and also secure the services of Ben Evans, who spent 2013 on loan from Warrington.
