Cleckheaton front up in fine style
Driffield 32 Cleckheaton 39
In a thrilling game, Cleckheaton came out on top thanks to the power and precision of their pack, with three of their tries coming from driving mauls following excellent line-out ball.
However, in the first half it was the home side who took control with two scores from winger Tom Hardy and an individual try from inspirational centre Robin Kitching, the latter adding two conversions.
Cleckheaton replied with a Ross Hayden penalty and a try from skipper Richard Piper but Driffield were good value for their lead at the break.
Kitching extended the advantage in the 44th minute with a sweetly-executed drop goal but the visitors were not going to lie down.
A try from winger James Wilson and two from Richard Piper following powerful rolling mauls, Hayden adding two conversions, pushed the visitors into the lead for the first time on the hour-mark.
In the 65th minute, Hayden once more found space to go over wide out for a try which he again converted.
Driffield replied five minutes later with a converted try which increased the intensity.
Cleckheaton hit back almost immediately with another try from Wilson but the final score came in the last few seconds, another Kitching drop goal giving the home side two losing bonus points.
