Losing draw not returning to JCT600 Bradford League - for the moment
Bringing in batting and bowling bonus points to the JCT600 Bradford League in 2006 has generally been seen as a positive thing.
But, with 20 points for a maximum victory, no-one has yet got to grips with the anomaly of a side only taking 15 points from a comprehensive victory when their opponents, batting first, are dismissed for well under 125, thus denying the victors the chance of any batting points.
Apart from bringing back the losing draw (five points for a side batting second and not passing the opponents’ score but not being bowled out), it suggested that if a side batting second is chasing 100, for example, and scores 101-0 or 101-1, they should receive 20 points.
However, the suggestion from Eric Vevers, though worthy, was too complicated and failed to get the seconder it required to go forward to the league’s annual meeting on November 14.
“Myabe three or four clubs could get together and come up with a joint proposal next year,” said the league’s chief executive officer David Young.
One rule change that will be voted on at the annual meeting is that clubs can hold non- cricketing activities – often major fund-raisers – on Priestley Cup final day.
