Leeds United: Brian McDermott won’t wallow after one bad result
6:50pm Thursday 19th September 2013 in Sport
Leeds United boss Brian McDermott insists his side are ready to put their agonising defeat at Reading behind them as they prepare to host Burnley on Saturday.
The Whites suffered the agony of conceding a goal six minutes into added time on Wednesday night as substitute Adam Le Fondre headed in a free-kick to give the Royals a 1-0 win.
It was a bitterly disappointing way for ex-Reading boss McDermott to mark his first return to the Madejski Stadium but he is seeking a response against the in-form Clarets.
The Leeds boss said: “One result like that doesn't change what we’re trying to do.
“We’re trying to evolve as a group. It won’t shape our season. You can wallow for as long as you like.
“Reading will be pleased with themselves, we’re disappointed, but we’ll move on.”
Left back Stephen Warnock was sent off at Reading after picking up two yellow cards.
He will now serve a one-match ban and miss the visit of Sean Dyche’s side, who lie fourth in the table after making their best start to a season for 12 years.
Dyche said: “I believe in positivity and working in a positive manner.
“That is my mindset. Of course, it doesn’t guarantee you a result but it does guarantee you a platform to get results.
“I think the fans are beginning to enjoy what we do and the team is showing good signs of our development, so long may it continue.”
