Ricky Ravenhill column: I doub't there will be a runaway winner in League One this season
I think it’s refreshing to see Leyton Orient going so well at the top of the league.
It’s all right people talking about the big teams at the start of the season and writing everyone else off but you look at Bristol City, who are struggling at the moment, and Wolves losing at home to Walsall – they aren’t having it all their own way.
Instead you’ve got one of the so-called lower clubs at the top, which shows how tight this league is going to be.
I can’t see anyone running away with it. Just like last season in League Two, it will be down to those who can put a good run together and show that consistency – as Orient are doing right now.
We saw last week against Colchester that there is a lot of quality in the division. We weren’t happy with the two goals we conceded but had we put in that level of performance against any League Two team, we would have got the three points.
It was disappointing to only get a draw but we were never going to win every home game or go through the whole season without conceding.
There was a lot of expectation after beating Sheffield United and Brentford at home but we all knew beforehand that Colchester were a strong team. They will do all right this season.
It must have been a good game to watch for the neutral with two good teams attacking each other and creating chances. We certainly had enough to get the win and there were no negatives to come out of the performance.
I’m a bit surprised with Martin Allen and the way Gillingham have started slowly. I thought he would have kept the momentum going from last season.
But we can’t let the way they have begun cloud our preparations for tomorrow’s game down there. Gillingham has always been a tough place to go and I don’t expect anything different.
If we underestimate them in any way, we will come unstuck because they will be fighting and scrapping for that first win. We have got to be ready for that.
