Dew-pendous win for Queensbury!
Queensbury got their Pennine League Championship season off to the best possible start by defeating Dewsbury Moor 18-16.
They started well but fell behind when some suspect tackling allowed Dewsbury to take the lead. Queeny hit back though when second-row Aaron Moore crashed over, Scott Swan converting.
Dewsbury started the stronger in the second half and took a 16-6 lead, however Queeny dug deep and hit back.
First, impressive second-row Tom Hainsworth carried several would-be tacklers over the line to touch down, before Josh Naylor seized on a loose ball to dive over. Swann successfully converted both efforts to give Queeny a well-earned away win.
Luke Cheney and Andrew Walker were the stand-out players.
In Division One, Odsal Sedbergh hit second spot following a fine 28-18 victory over Sharlston Rovers A.
Sedge looked well in control early in the second half at 22-8 but had to survive a late fightback from the Wakefield outfit, who came back to within one score.
It took an 80th-minute try from Kaine McEwan to finally end the visitors’ challenge.
Other Sedge scorers were Ste Barnes, Robert Booth, Luke Sellers and Lee Birkett.
Wyke were unable to open their account, losing 46-10 to Boothtown Terriers.
Wyke faced an uphill struggle after going behind 22-0 after just 20 minutes. Paul Farnell crossed for Wyke’s opener before man of the match Simon Owen also helped himself to a score, which was converted by Mick Wormald.
In Division Seven, Queensbury B were 44-12 winners over Moorends A. Jimmy Artist and Scott Leigh led the way with two tries apiece and Jimmy Simpson, Danny Hawthorne, Chris Hanson, Andy Stephen-son, Luke Barrett and Marco Rossi also crossed.
