Steeton turn tables to overcome Kirkburton
Steeton are mounting another West Riding County Amateur League title challenge after their near miss last season and showed their credentials with a fine weekend win at Kirkburton.
The 2012-13 Premier Division runners-up trailed to a Jordan Tindall strike at the interval but turned the match around with goals from Lee Reilly and Daniel McNulty.
The 2-1 victory leaves Steeton as one of four clubs on the same number of points behind top two Ovenden West Riding and Golcar United.
Halifax-based Ovenden are three points clear of Golcar, although having played a game more, after a thumping 5-1 win in Huddersfield against Lepton Highlanders. Damian Randall (2), Robbie Graham, Jordan Coduri and Mick Palethorpe supplied the firepower.
Golcar remain second but are now only a point ahead of the quartet of challengers after being held 2-2 at home by Campion. Jonathon Newiss and Liam Rothery scored for the Huddersfield-based hosts, while Omar Habeed and Mark Trueman replied.
Defending champions Bay Athletic are finding their feet again after a couple of early-season defeats and swept into third place on goal difference with a 6-1 hammering of Hall Green United, who remain without a point.
Tyersal had Mark Beale and Fabian Evans on target in the second half but returned from Storthes Hall without reward as Josh Rodgers (2), Ben Burnett, Richard Lally and Jacob Robertson earned the Huddersfield side a 5-2 win.
Salts slipped from fourth to eighth as first-half goals from Ben McLean and Lamin Bojang saw them lose 2-0 at home to Littletown.
Hunsworth extended their 100 per cent start at the top of Division One with a fifth successive victory, although it was close at Lower Hopton as doubles from Jamie Bairstow and Andrew Wood earned a 4-3 success.
Wakefield City remain third despite losing 1-0 at home to a Josh Ludford goal that gave unbeaten Campion Reserves their first win after three draws.
Bay Athletics Reserves made it four wins from their four games as they beat Overthorpe 4-2.
West Horton (Fasal Ali and Absalan Mohammed) and Westbrook YMCA (Brent Stojanovic and Richard Terry) shared four goals at Myra Shay.
Newcomers Dram Community upped the pace at the Division Two summit with an 11-4 goal rush against Tyersal Reserves.
A Darius Matheson hat-trick was backed up by Josh Fiddes and Craig Thompson with two apiece, Joel Franklin, William Davidson, John Flynn and Daniel Bellanfante. Hussain Ateek (2), Wayne Wright and an own goal made up Tyersal’s tally.
Thornes and Bradford, also both new to the league, met for the first time and the Wakefield side ran out 3-1 winners as Ben Long, Andrew Holt and Chris Andrews outscored Hasam Khan.
Dudley Hill Rangers remain second despite losing for the first time, visitors Lower Hopton Reserves returning home 3-1 winners.
