Fat chance Bradford Bulls players will take it easy in close season
Bulls coach Francis Cummins has warned his players to stay in shape during the off-season ahead – or face being fined.
The squad will soon disperse for their end-of-season break following last weekend’s final-day home win over Huddersfield.
They have been tested by the club’s backroom staff and Cummins will this week complete one-to-ones with his players, who will also undergo a dexa scan in Liverpool to test their body fat.
Cummins said: “The players have already done their testing at the club and we’ve got all the information we need on that.
“By the end of this week, they will have done their one-on-ones with me, the physio, the conditioner and the player welfare officer.
“They will also have a dexa scan in Liverpool to see how much fat they’ve got on them, which will compare with previous ones we’ve done this year.
“That will then give the players some figures as to what kind of shape they must be in when they come for pre-season.”
Many of the Bulls players spoke of pre-season being one of their toughest ever last year as Cummins put his men through their paces during gruelling six-day weeks.
The Bulls coach, who is aiming to secure the services of Warrington prop Ben Evans again next season, added: “We were in a good position last year and we need to go again.
“The players will be tested when they come back at the end of October and if they’re in good condition they will probably get another week off and we’ll start pre-season training on November 5.
“If they’re not, they face being fined because it’s so important they are fit and ready to go.”
