Bradford City: Better late than never for Luke Oliver
The big defender sailed through his first full game in nearly a year as City kept up their perfect home start to League One.
Parkinson said: “I only told Luke he was in the team an hour and a half before kick-off, so he didn’t have long to think about it.
“When you’ve been out for so long, you can start worrying if you’re going to be all right and if you’ll be ready to play. I didn’t want that to concern him.
“We’d seen a big improvement with him over the previous seven to ten days in training. It was like he’d cleared a hurdle and he gave us that physical presence back in there.”
Parkinson added: “With Carl, we’d have to move Dava (Andrew Davies) to right-side centre back. But he’s been playing really well on the left side so we didn’t want that disruption.
“Matty played last Tuesday but had damaged his foot prior to the game. He felt a lot better later in the week but with him not being 100 per cent and Luke training so well, we decided it was the right call.”
The emergency loan window reopened yesterday but Parkinson said City had “nothing imminent” planned. The reserves are playing a friendly at York today.
