Mallory keeps cool head to nod winner for Bradford Park Avenue
Worcester City 1 Bradford Park Avenue 2
Another late Steve Mallory header earned Bradford Park Avenue their first league victory of the season at the sixth attempt.
The recent signing clinched a point for ten-man Avenue with an injury-time strike on his debut against Oxford City and in his second game scored an 86th-minute winner.
Avenue had begun well at fellow strugglers Worcester and they opened the scoring in the 17th minute.
Alex Davidson had done well to put skipper Nathan Hotte through and when his shot was blocked, Paul Walker seized the loose ball and netted a low shot.
The visitors could have increased their lead as centre back James Knowles headed into the side-netting following a corner, and soon after Louie Swain was denied by the woodwork as his shot struck a post.
Worcester, who had gone close early on through Tom Thornley, began to create chances again. A floating free-kick presented Graham Hutchison with an opportunity but he headed wide and Avenue keeper John Lamb foiled a later effort with an acrobatic tip over his bar.
There were more chances for a determined Avenue after the break but the home side were still in the game.
When Chib Chilaka was denied after trying to round the home keeper and Worcester countered to go close through Daniel Nti, it was typical of the flow of the match.
The home side levelled right on the hour mark when Ethan Moore netted from close range following a concerted attack but Avenue were far from done and they banked their first maximum.
With less than four minutes remaining, Walker whipped in a corner kick, Mallory was waiting for it at the near post and he buried a firm header into the net. It was too late for the wounded home side to recover.
