Christian Holmes defended his title in a tightly-fought battle with Tim Black in Alice’s Run at Mytholmroyd.

The Wharfedale Harrier won in 36min 42sec, with Black (Calder Valley) a few yards behind, in the 10K trail race to Hebden Bridge which has a section suited to fell runners in the second half.

Sarah Aylmer of Stockport won the women’s race. She clocked 47:29 in a field of over 200 runners and some walkers from as far afield as Northampton and Liverpool.

Also, 16 children completed the one-kilometre fun run and all received a medal.

The race is organised by Rawdon-based Epilepsy Action in memory of Alice Redmond, a girl from Blackshaw Head who died in 2005.

Philippa Cartwright, fundraising events manager at the charity, said: “We are so pleased with the continuing success of Alice’s Run.

“There was a great turnout which really helped to make it a great day and a brilliant tribute to Alice.”

Epilepsy Action, along with Sue Ryder’s Manorlands Hospice in Haworth, are the two beneficiary charities of the Bradford City Runs on October 27.

Participants in this event from last year have had an extended deadline of September 15 to enter the 2013 event at half price. They have received a discount code from the council for their online entry (bradfordcityruns.co.uk).

The course starts and finishes at City Park and this year offers runners 5K, 10K and half-marathon options.
