Hussain match halted by car accident
A freak car accident prevented Jawad Hussain from being the fifth Bradford player to earn maximum points in their victory over East Riding at Baildon.
Hussain was well up in his match against Lewis Blanchard going down the 15th hole when a car somersaulted off the road running parallel to the fairway and on to the course.
The golfers rushed to the aid of the occupants of the battered Rover, who escaped with minor injuries, but were too shaken up to continue.
Bradford captain Tim Wade said: “JD was three up with four to go when a car rolled on to the golf course.
“They ran down to see if they could help and an air ambulance was called.
“Thankfully there were no serious injuries but the players couldn’t carry on.
“They rang in to ask if it was okay to halve the match.”
Hussain had earlier won his foursomes game with Rob Malloy, who, along with Henry Tetley, Jack Laybourne and Chris Green, claimed their full quota of points.
Baildon’s 23-13 win was their third on the bounce and secured them a third place finish in the table.
