STEVENAGE 1 CITY 1
Kyel Reid crowned his first start for City in League One with a stunning free-kick to earn a point at Stevenage.
The winger, in for Mark Yeates, netted from 25 yards to cancel out Greg Tansey’s penalty as City improved massively after the break.
City had started poorly against the physical approach of the home side and Robin Shroot shot narrowly across goal.
The visitors struggled to settle and found themselves behind after 23 minutes.
Luke Freeman’s fierce drive was handled by Gary Jones as he tried to block and Tansey sent Jon McLaughlin the wrong way from the spot.
Nahki Wells stretched to flick over the bar from close range but City were relieved to get into the interval only one behind.
The improvement after the break was immediate and they needed only two minutes to equalise as Reid curled a stunning free-kick over the wall from 25 yards out.
Andrew Davies then went close with a flick header from a Jones set-piece and Wells tested Chris Day with an acrobatic effort on the turn.
McLaughlin pulled off a superb low save to deny Oumare Tounkara but City’s second-half revival deserved the point.
Taken quickly and cleared. It's all over, 1-1...
Late corner for Stevenage...
Another overhead try from Wells goes over the bar.
Corner for City . McArdle gets touch near post and deflection means another corner.
De Vita slams ball into side-netting after Wells sets him up.
Five minutes of added time.
Break in play as Stevenage skipper Ashton gets treatment.
Freeman finds room for a fierce snap shot but it's straight at McLaughlin.
Hanson's foul count must have hit the double figure mark
Both teams still fancy they can nick this
And Stevenage replace Doughty with Smith.
City make their last change. Both scorers have gone off now as Reid goes off to loud cheer. On comes Yeates.
Spell of head tennis in the City goalmouth as home side try to apply some pressure. The shot when it comes is a pea roller from Shroot.
And now back to the football....
Referee having some words with both managers.
Tempers rising on touchline as Darby gets City's third booking.
Wells attempts overhead kick Rooney-style from Darby cross. Unfortunately it ends up straight back with the full back!
Great save from McLaughlin at full stretch to deny Tounkara after space opened up for the Stevenage sub.
McArdle meets corner with his shoulder rather than head and ball sails harmlessly wide.
Acrobatic effort on turn from Wells is turned behind by Day. City pressing for a second...
Little known fact he played against City last season on loan for Aldershot. Didn't do a lot..
Another sub from Stevenage. Goalscorer Tansey makes way for Lopez.
Big block by Jones in front of the goalline after short corner catches City off guard.
Close shave for City as Freeman shot deflected on to top of net.
Double sub for City. Ravenhill and De Vita replacing Thompson and Doyle.
Hanson getting no lee-way from referee this afternoon, blows up for every contact.
Jones free-kick flicked off Davies and just past the far post. Close...
This game could go either way. Free-kick to City level with the corner of the penalty area
Thompson volleys wide from close range before Stevenage make the first change of the afternoon, bringing on Tounkara for Burrow.
Stevenage defend it well.
Corner for City, their third and first in front of the away fans.
Wonder if Stevenage's midweek exertions will become a factor as game wears on?
Thompson looks to float ball over top for Wells to chase but puts a bit too much on pass.
Cards building up as Freeman sees yellow for leaving foot in on McArdle.
Well-timed sliding tackle from Davies stops same striker from breaking clear.
Freeman's shot on turn bit too hot for McLaughlin to handle and needs a second grab.

Great free-kick from the winger gave Day no chance as away end erupts...
REID bends it over wall and into top corner. 1-1!
Wells over it with Reid
Wells shoved in back to give City free-kick 25 yards out...
Early shot from Freeman but McLaughlin has it safely covered.
City kick off second half towards their fans.
Half-time rollicking over, City return to the field. Bet they're relieved to get out of a rather heated away dressing room...
I knew that Stevenage away would be a banana skin! #bcafc— @omareliwi 31 August 2013
@ParkerTandA I sense it's going to be one of those days...— @bantam84 31 August 2013

City need to play some FOOTBALL second half. No point lumping it forwards to Wells in the air #bcafc— @p1tsy 31 August 2013
City took half an hour to get going before a spell of pressure brought a good chance for Wells, who turned the shot over from close range.
But Stevenage finished the half back on top with a couple of desperate blocks preventing the hosts going in two up at the break.
It's thankfully back now but the news from the Lamex is not good. City trail 1-0 to Greg Tansey's penalty after Gary Jones handled in the box.
Sorry but it seems the site went down for virtually the whole first half!
Early free-kick for City and Day looks unconvincing as Jones setpiece sails past far post.
And we're off as Stevenage kick off towards the away end
City preparing for the walk of fear past 12 kids waving Stevenage flags at pitchside ..
Not a huge number of City fans here but they are making themselves heard as kick-off approaches.
#bcafc warm up at Stevenage... http://t.co/bocgEB9Ywc— @ParkerTandA 31 August 2013
I really hope Reid has a blinder this afternoon. Come on City!! #bcafc— @DazHindle 31 August 2013
Darius Charles was ruled out for Stevenage with an ankle injury he suffered in the Capital One Cup defeat at Everton.
Jimmy Smith was dropped to the bench as Graham Westley made two changes from Wednesday.
STEVENAGE: Day, Gray, Hartley, Ashton, Deacon, Burrow, Doughty, Dunne, Freeman, Shroot, Tansey. Subs: Jones, Heslop, Haber, Smith, Tounkara, Lopez, Arnold.
Phil Parkinson has changed City's starting side for the first time in the league this season.
Kyel Reid comes in on the left wing for Mark Yeates, who presumably is still feeling a bit of trouble with his knee. The summer signing drops to the bench.
So that means the first 11 is the same that beat Northampton in the play-off final at Wembley in May.
CITY: McLaughlin, Darby, McArdle, Davies, Meredith, Thompson, Jones, Doyle, Reid, Wells, Hanson. Subs: Ravenhill, Yeates, Taylor, McHugh, Connell, De Vita, Ripley.
On way to ground with @jandrews_97 #bcafc #StevenageFC— @TheSaint1441 31 August 2013
Large number of scouts here today, including one from Newcastle. Suspect a certain number 21 is on the watch list
Nice to see Oliver McBurnie travel with the squad for some experience. He's been given the nickname "Man United" by his team-mates.
Bradford 2-1, @nahkiwells first goal needed to fund my night out! #bcafc #upthebantams— @MattVeazey1 31 August 2013
Good number of convenient away days now that we're Londoners. Persuaded @fordface we should go to Stevenage #bcafc— @bmwelby 31 August 2013
Team news expected shortly but safe to say City will be unchanged for the fifth league game. Think it's same bench again as well.
Good afternoon and welcome from a sunny Stevenage.
It's only the second time City have been here - let's hope it's much better than the dire 2-1 loss during Peter Jackson's short reign.
