Exciting weekend guaranteed in Central Yorkshire League
Rain played havoc with the promotion and relegation issues in the Central Yorkshire League last weekend when, with their First Division season delicately poised, Mirfield, Scholes and Liversedge were all washed out.
Hopton Mills did manage to complete a four-wicket win over bottom club Ossett A to increase their lead over second-placed Scholes and much now depends on this week’s games as Hopton go to an Oulton side still in with a top-two chance and Scholes take on mid-table East Leeds at New Popplewell Lane.
Liversedge, having been washed out at East Leeds in their last game, are now at home to East Ardsley but, with an eight-point gap to make up on Scholes, they are going to need a lot of results going their way to get anywhere near.
Ossett A do have home advantage against Buttershaw St Paul’s, victims of the weather at home to Scholes last week, but they face a big ask if they are to pull out of the relegation zone after their defeat at Hopton Mills.
In the Premier Division, Batley and Mirfield Parish did get their games played but it was to no avail, as far as Batley's bid for top flight safety was concerned, as they went down by eight wickets at Hunslet Nelson and are just six points clear of the drop zone with three games to go.
This week Batley take on Ossett at Mount Pleasant while Birstall and Mirfield Parish, at home to Hunslet Nelson and Wakefield Thornes respectively, are battling it out in mid-table.
Westwood Park, going for the title in both Divisions Three and Four, will be hoping for better luck with the weather as their first team entertain Adwalton while the A team, well beaten by Hopton A in their last game, go to Adwalton A trying to hold on to a four point lead at the top.
