Steve Hollingworth to the four for Buttershaw White Star
Perennial front-runners Buttershaw White Star have assumed their customary position at the Premier Division summit after opening with two convincing Bradford Sunday Alliance League wins.
Steve Hollingworth helped himself to four of the goals as White Star brushed aside Wyke Wanderers 6-0.
It was only 1-0 at the interval before the hosts stepped up a gear, with Graeme Sides and Dan Cunningham adding to Hollingworth’s efforts.
Defending champions West Bowling have also started with two wins, opening with a 5-1 verdict against Dudley Hill on Thursday – new 18-year-old signing Jamie Hall among the scorers – before adding a 2-0 win at Bolton Woods thanks to Phil Brogan’s double.
Peel Park secured their first top-flight victory after edging a five-goal thriller at home to fellow promoted side George Hotel.
Adam Turner cancelled out Hotel’s opener just before the interval and although the visitors took the lead again, further strikes by 42-year-old former Real Zaragoza youth team player Santiago Contreras and Matthew Hannan enabled Park to take the points.
In Division One, Lane Ends recorded their second win by an odd goal as they beat visiting Thornbury Celtic 3-2 courtesy of Tom Dolan, Dean Walters and Dale Howard.
Paul Blake and Ben Hagan earned Buttershaw Celtic a 2-0 home victory over Allerton – while two sides racked up double figures.
Napoleons Casino’s 10-3 trouncing of Victoria Rangers left them top of the table, with Bradford Phoenix going one better by defeating Oakenshaw 11-5.
Cuedos Rangers maintained they 100 per cent start with a 3-2 victory over Manningham, while White Eagles lost to Ancient Forresters by the same score.
Teams in the lower divisions were playing their opening games of the season and Sporting Pudsey got off to a good start with a 3-2 home victory over Turf in Division 2A.
In Division 2B, Grass Greener at home to Toller ended with six goals shared after Ben Cawley (2) and Aaron Oddy had earned a 3-0 lead for the hosts.
There was 12 goals in the Division 3A match between Jubo Dhol and Eccleshill WMC as they gained a point apiece.
Matty Hargreaves’ opener for ’Hill was soon dwarfed as Dhol surged well clear but Josh Jalali (2), Adam Goldsworthy, Chris Robson and Lino Massimo completed an amazing comeback.
