Four-figure landmark for Halifax League umpire
Umprie Andrew Mitchell has completed the rare feat of officiating in 1,000 matches.
The Foster’s Halifax League umpires’ appointments secretary reached the landmark last Saturday in the Division Two match between Stones and Greetland.
Both sets of players formed a guard of honour for Andrew and he was presented with a certificate by Umpires’ Association chairman Alan Conyers.
He also received a congratulatory card from league president David Normanton on behalf of everyone connected with the league for his 45 years of dedication.
Mitchell (pictured left) commented on the number of changes since he started umpiring, such as start times, overs in matches, playing rules and, in particular, modes of transport to get to grounds.
