Injuries can't halt flying start for Albion Sports
6:00pm Friday 23rd August 2013 in Sport
It has been a superb start to the new season for Albion Sports, with three straight league victories and a win in their first appearance in the FA Cup.
Albion were on a roll after winning the Northern Counties East Division One title but their start to this season’s Premier Division campaign has made people sit up and take notice.
Manager Kulwinder Sandhu hoped they would do well but he expected a difficult opening spell. He knew his squad was good enough but he had several key players missing.
“The game is quicker now we have stepped up a level but the players have not looked out of place in the Premier,” said Sandhu.
“I was a little worried because we had Karl Hall (last season’s top scorer), Liam Ormsby, Joel Etienne and Alex Cusack all injured at the start.
“There are enough problems with players away on holiday and unavailable through work or family commitments for the friendly games and first few league games, so it’s frustrating to start with a handful of players out injured.
“But we have done well and in Wednesday’s game (a 2-0 home win over Parkgate) Karl, Liam and Alex all came on.
“They got some time in the game and came through with no problems, so I could have a few selection headaches of the right kind soon.”
With Albion currently joint top, being one of five clubs with a 100 per cent record, and looking forward to another FA Cup tie against South Shields next weekend, things are looking good.
However, Sandhu refuses to get carried away. He said: “I haven’t even looked at the league table yet – it’s early days.”
