Yorkshire turn screw as Nottinghamshire collapse
4:33pm Thursday 22nd August 2013 in Sport
Yorkshire continued their impressive return to championship action by leaving Nottinghamshire on the brink of following on after dominating the second day at Trent Bridge.
Replying to Yorkshire’s competitive total of 407, after Jonny Bairstow and Steve Patterson had forged a 91-run ninth wicket stand, Nottinghamshire lost four wickets for 40 after lunch and had slipped to 78-8 when a shower prompted an early tea.
Nottinghamshire took 15 overs before they made the first breakthrough of the day when Patterson’s entertaining innings of 40 was ended when he edged Andre Adams behind and Bairstow fell two overs later to the same bowler when he lost his leg stump, chasing quick runs after reaching 62 off 70 balls, including 11 fours.
Their efforts ensured Yorkshire had the momentum as Nottinghamshire began their reply and, after Sidebottom claimed two wickets before lunch, they subsided after the interval with only Samit Patel (23) and David Hussey 913) reaching double figures during their collapse.
Sidebottom claimed 4-28 before being taken out of the attack shortly before the rain and Patterson continued his impressive match by grabbing 4-20.
