Yorkshire still hold upper hand
Yorkshire continued their impressive return to championship cricket by dominating the second morning of their crunch match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
Having resumed on 327-8 after being put into bat, Yorkshire raced to a fourth batting point with Jonny Bairstow and Steve Patterson forging a 91-run ninth wicket stand to help them reach 407 all out before Ryan Sidebottom claimed two early wickets to leave Nottinghamshire struggling on 24-2.
From the start of the day Yorkshire began positively and cruised past 350 before Patterson edged Andre Adams behind for an entertaining 40 and Bairstow fell two overs later to the same bowler when he lost his leg stump chasing quick runs after reaching 62 off 70 balls, including 11 fours.
Sidebottom continued that momentum by slanting the ball past opener Alex Hales, who edged behind, and also won an lbw decision against former Yorkshire batsman Michael Lumb, who was pushing forward defensively.
