Adam Lyth passes 50 as Yorkshire take charge
Adam Lyth has led a strong Yorkshire batting display on the opening morning of their LV= County Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
The left-handed opener passed 50 for the fourth time this summer, taking 84 balls, and has helped his side to a lunchtime score of 124-2 from 31 overs, including an unbroken third-wicket stand of 63 inside 19 overs with his captain Andrew Gale.
Notts won the toss in seemingly ideal conditions for bowling - a green tinge to the pitch and overhead cloud.
But they have not been at their best this morning, and they would have hoped for more reward than the dismissals of Alex Lees and Phil Jaques.
Lees was caught behind off Harry Gurney and Jaques trapped lbw by Luke Fletcher to leave the score at 61-2. Yorkshire have hit 19 boundaries this morning, including ten for Lyth.
He even hit three in a row off Steven Mullaney’s medium pace during the latter stages of the session on the way to 65no. Gale is 27 no.
While Kane Williamson debuts for the county, Jonny Bairstow will return to the side at some point in place of Andrew Hodd following his England omission.
