Denholme Clough concede rain-hit match
Rain washed out virtually all the games at around tea-time on Saturday, and no first-team games were completed in the Foster’s Halifax League.
However, two second team matches finished – one in strange circumstances at Jer Lane.
Denholme Clough were bowled out for 66, with Dean Watson taking 7-28.
Watson was then bowled for four in the third over of his side’s reply, and the players came off for rain at that stage with the hosts 4-1.
The weather eventually relented and the umpires deemed it was fit for play but Clough declined to resume with the home side’s revised target leaving them needing just a few runs.
League fixture secretary Peter Taylor said: “Jer Lane needed something like two more runs in two or three overs with nine wickets left.
“It was obvious they were going to get them so Denholme Clough declined to come out again and conceded the match.”
While Lane were boosting their promotion hopes in Division One, Old Crossleyans did the same in Division Two with a five-wicket victory at Augustinians, the ten-man hosts being bowled out for 82 in 25 overs. Crocs knocked off the runs in the 24th over.
