Bantams boost as Andy Gray steps up recovery regime
Andy Gray is a week away from a return to full training with City.
The unlucky striker has been out of action since breaking his forearm in the opening pre-season friendly at Guiseley.
But the City boss has revealed that Gray’s recovery is going according to plan and he should soon be back in the reckoning.
Parkinson said: “Andy is running and keeping fit, it’s just a case of getting back out with a ball in contact.
“He’s doing work with the ball but obviously the specialist doesn’t want him to get involved with anything physical.
“He won’t have lost much fitness in aerobic terms. He just needs to get out there and play some football.
“It will be good to get him back and competing for a place.”
Parkinson felt Raffaele De Vita, Luke Oliver and Matt Taylor all benefited from last week’s friendly with Park Avenue as they look to build up their own match sharpness.
“It was great to get those lads more game-time,” he added. “They were a bit behind so it was imperative they played.
“Raf’s there now really and I’m pleased with him. He needed Monday’s game.
“Olly’s getting closer and Matty has had 60 minutes and now a full 90 under his belt. That’s good for him and he’s pushing the two centre halves.”
As Oliver’s recovery from his long-term absence gathers pace, Parkinson has not considered sending him out on loan.
“We haven’t really thought of that yet. We’re not looking too far ahead but just taking each week as it comes and we’re pleased with the way he’s progressing.
“It will be great to have four centre halves to choose from. We know from last year when we did have problems it proved costly and we’ve got more strength in that department.”
