Jamie Foster column: Keith Lulia more than handy ally on the left flank
Looking back at last week’s defeat to Catalan, it was very frustrating because we had talked the game up as being must-win, and it was.
Even a few days after the game you stop and reflect on what happened and the little things that saw it drift away from us.
We’ve got to re-group and go again because mathematically it’s still possible, and that’s enough for us.
We just need to tidy a few areas up and I’m sure we can reap the rewards – starting at Castleford this weekend.
They’re a quality team with some top players, such as Michael Shenton, who I played with at St Helens right through 2011.
I actually think Cas have underachieved in the past couple of years given the squad they have.
When they click, they can beat anyone. I remember a few weeks ago they won at Wigan, and that was a big eye-opener, even if Wigan did have a couple of players missing.
You’re that close to the crowd at Cas, you’re almost sat in the stands with them.
On a personal note, I feel like I’m playing all right. I don’t think I’m where I want to be because you should always try and strive for more.
I’m not happy with certain parts of my game and I’ve got to target them all the time and improve.
Speaking to a lot of the other guys, I think they’ve all got little things to pick up on and improve, so if we can do that as a team then I think we’re going to benefit.
It’s been going particularly well between Keith Lulia and I in the past few games, and he is certainly in great form with four tries in his last two games.
I wouldn’t like to be on the end of that right hand-off because it’s frightening. He could stop a car with some of them! If that’s the way Franny picks it again this week, with me playing outside Keith, then great.
We believe we’re very dangerous on that left edge so hopefully we can get the win we need to keep our season alive.
