Eccleshill will be Yorkshire’s home venue when they play Birkenhead in the British Parks Senior Team Championship semi-final on Sunday (2pm), with the away match taking place at the Lever Club.

The powers that be took stick for the choice of venue in the last county match at Heckmondwike but have made a good decision for the last four.

Eccleshill’s green is in terrific condition and will hopefully help Yorkshire, who will be looking for plenty of support, to a home win.

The other semi-final sees South Yorkshire play Greater Manchester.

The latest qualifiers in the £5,300 Brighouse Classic, sponsored by Naylor Wintersgill (Chartered Accountants), were Graeme Wilson (Audenshaw) and Phil Dowgill (Clayton). Wilson beat Simon Walder (Spen) 21-8, while Dowgill defeated Huddersfield’s Jack Dyson 21-16. The action continues on Friday (6.30pm).

Danny Petcher (Derbyshire) and James Davison (Eccleshill) were the latest qualifiers in the Yorkshire Building Society Pudsey Classic.

Petcher was in superb form, qualifying with ease, with wins over Lee Brown (Stoke) 21-12, Phil Cookson (Cheshire) 21-11 and John Hanson (Preston) 21-3, drawing number 11 on finals night. Davison, meanwhile, qualified after beating Richard Lawrence (Rawdon) 21-11, David Poole (Dearne Sports) 21-10 and Steven Gilroy (Crossgates) 21-12, drawing number eight on finals night.

Qualifying continues on Saturday, with Keith Hall (Eccleshill) looking to make it to finals night again.

Andy Buckley (Chadderton) and Chris Mordue (Pudsey) were week six qualifiers of the Spen Masters, sponsored by P & I Hopkins (Butchers). Buckley beat Simon Coupe (Preston) 21-16 in the final qualifying game, drawing number 16 on finals night. Mordue, who drew number five, beat Ryan Clark (Sheffield) 21-20 in his final game. Qualifying continues on Saturday, with Andy Hodgson (Pudsey), the only Bradford League player in action.

Yorkshire ladies play Shropshire on Sunday in the semi-final of the British Parks County Championship.

The home match is to be played at Lockwood Cons, with the away match at Newport. If Yorkshire progress, they will play the final on Sunday, September 22 at the Waterloo in Blackpool. The Waterloo Cup is played the previous day for losing semi-finalists.

Shipley Club are to run an indoor bowls league (30 foot carpet), starting in October. Teams are to be made up of eight players (four pairs) and cost to enter is £40 per team.
