Thackley 3, Maltby Main 2

Thackley’s Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division home game against Maltby Main kicked off more than half an hour late tonight after problems with the match officials.

The original referee and his assistants were travelling from Stockport but were held up following a bad accident on the M62.

They contacted the FA, who acted quickly to appoint more local officials and contacted the Dennyboys to inform them of the change.

The delay seemed to settle the visitors and they raced into a two-goal lead as Robert Branaghan helped himself to a double.

The Dennyboys mounted a comeback after the interval, with Matt Mathers and James Firth on target before Damien Hopkins scored the winner for Thackley in stoppage time.
