Furious Francis Cummins accused his players of being “dishonest” as the Bulls’ play-off hopes were dealt a major blow.

Widnes’ dramatic 32-28 success – their first win at Odsal since September 1990 – condemned Cummins’ men to their seventh defeat in eight games.

They now lie three points adrift of the play-off places and Cummins could not hide his anger afterwards.

The Bulls were 28-16 up in the 52nd minute but Widnes hit back with three more tries, with Stefan Marsh’s second and a fine brace from ex-Bradford winger Patrick Ah Van proving decisive.

Cummins said: “It was all about attitude. We were playing some really good stuff and were totally dominating the game.

“At times some people were dishonest and that’s hard to take.

“You’re pinching the ball or trying to offload in yardage – that’s letting each other down.

“You’ve got to earn the right to play and we didn’t. It’s alright people putting their hands up but they’ve let each other down.”

Cummins, who saw Michael Platt suffer a broken nose, accepts his side face an uphill task to reach the play-offs now.

He added: “We’ve got enough talent but we need to show a bit more honesty about what we want to do and how we want to work hard for each other.

“Today was poor. To be that dominant and then to let a team who are struggling back anywhere near is not good enough.”
