Long-serving goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin and winger Garry Thompson have been told they are definitely in City's plans for League One.

The club have exercised an option in their contracts to keep the pair at Valley Parade for next season.

As reported in the T&A earlier this week, City have also done the same with Kyel Reid. Promotion also triggered another year for skipper Gary Jones, who is expected to take it up.

Phil Parkinson will wait before revealing what will happen to the others in the squad whose current deals are up.

The City boss said: "We are still speaking to several of the players in the squad and finalising the exact budget for next season. We will keep fans up to date when we can say more."

Can't think of many in this squad who I wouldn't want to keep for next season. Andy Gray hasn't 'made it' but he has a two year contract and will likely stay. Nelson is another who I might let go and possibly Duke. But they also may be kept.

Andrew Davies and Nahki Wells are going to be targets for other teams, but we'll just have to wait/see if they stay.

I would definitely make Gary Jones captain for next season as I am less than convinced Ricky Ravenhill will make the first eleven that often!

Duke will probably go or stay on a lesser a contract.

If he played 1 more game he would have triggered a further year. By not triggering it we now release him or renegotiate.

Gray and Nelson could easily be better players for us with a full per-season.

Biro are rumoured to be keen on Davies, as much as he likes the club this is a championship club and his boyhood team where he came through. Will be very surprised but delighted if we managed to keep him

Agree with comments - try to keep nearly all - maybe Hines to go and also would like Ravenhill, Gray & Nelson to go
See Norwich ave released Simeon Jackson and Tom Adyemi - as well as excellent keeper Lee Camp. Three worth going for?
Well done to all the lads and congrats to PP and his management team. I, like Shawn, has to eat humble pie. Maybe season's luck evens itself out and we maybe were ten points better than our final tally.

It seems a bit early to be second guessing comings and goings but, as I'm relaxing thought I'd throw my tuppence in the ring.

I'd keep Duke. The two keepers have done us proud this year. I think they are both good enough for a league above.

The full backs are class.

Centre backs. Rory on the books. Nelson was growing into it. Oliver may not, I fear, ever recover fully from injury. McHugh needs to be carefully managed. Especially in the division above. So the obvious conclusion is sign Davies up. Or is it?? He misses half a season every year through injury or suspension. Can we afford that expensive luxury?

I'd like to keep Doyle. We have kept Captain Marvel Jones. For me we need another great midfielder who offers something different.

Wingers. Feel Reid will go back down south to be with his very young baby. Get rid of Atkinson. And Beans. Keep Thommo and again strengthen in this area.

Forwards. Keep Hanson. For me keep Connell who I felt was too intelligent for league 2. Wells, I would love to stay but fear he's ready to go. He's very ambitious and trigger happy. Personally I don't think he's anywhere near Championship level. For me he should stay. He's had one good year and was often Off the boil. He can learn with a fan base who adore him. If he's good again then he will get a big move. If not he continues to learn his trade with us and learns league 1.

I still feel we need another big, hitting striker. Hanson has been good this year. His best season in a shirt. But 1 in 4 is not good enough. Get another in if only to give him further competition.

So there you go. For me a CB, a central midfielder and a couple of wingers and a striker.

Voila, back to back promotions.

Obviously tying down davies long term is the priority. And after the damage thomson did at wembley, he is my league 1 choice for regular right midfielder. As someone else mentioned on here, i believe the majority of our team were simply too good for league 2 and will thrive next season with 3 or 4 quality additions

Think we need a striker, winger and an an attacking midfield opinion. And if we can't teach Johnny Mac to kick straight, another keeper.

Atkinson made 57 appearances in a successful campaign. Rather like a competent referee, his tidy performances do not catch the eye.

However, I would expect someone who watches the team to recognise his contribution. Alas, it seems easier to idolise the headline grabbers.

Luckily, we have a manager in charge that knows what he is doing and is able to think independently.

bahamianbantam made a good point re Norwich releasing 3 good players.

It appears for us championship trash could be become our treasure.

Rather than get into the who stays / goes, of which we all have an opinion, nice to know P P hs made wise decisions before and now he has a budget can make a few more.
