Matthew Chivers won English and national indoor rowing titles
Matthew Chivers, a fifth form pupil at Bradford Grammar School, has won gold medals in two national indoor events.
The Ilkley teenager won the English Championships and the National Junior Championships.
The English event was held at Manchester Velodrome, where Chivers won the under-16 2,000 metres race in 6min 38sec. His 500-metre splits were 1:38.8, 1:39.9, 1:41.7 and 1:37.7.
He also came home with gold from the National Juniors at the Lee Valley Stadium in North London, coming first out of 100 competitors from England, Wales and Scotland.
Chivers rowed next to the Welsh champion and ‘travelled’ 1,798 metres in six minutes, 11 metres ahead of the silver medallist.
