Farsley suffer a knockout blow
6:00am Wednesday 20th March 2013 in Sport By Ian Whiting
Gareth Grant's strike proved to be only a consolation
Matlock Town 3 Farsley 1
Farsley’s Evo-Stik League Cup dream perished at Matlock’s Causeway Lane in last night’s quarter-final.
The Premier Division hosts led their Division One North visitors 2-0 at the interval thanks to goals from James Ashmore and Lewis McMahon.
Matlock extended their lead just before the hour mark, Massiah McDonald on target, but Gareth Grant gave Farsley some hope when he made it 3-1. Unfortunately, the former Bantams player’s goal proved to be too little too late.
The defeat ended Farsley’s hopes of silverware this season but Matlock are still on course for a double as they are also in the final of the Derbyshire County Cup.
