9:46pm

CITY 1 WYCOMBE 0

Garry Thompson's sixth goal of the season earned City their first league home win of 2013.

Thompson struck after just seven minutes, forcing home after James Hanson had nodded down Kyel Reid's free-kick.

It was not a great game and Wycombe should have levelled when Matt McClure headed over from close range at the start of the second half.

But City played with a good spirit and deserved their first league victory at Valley Parade in six games. The win also cuts the gap to the play-offs to seven points.

The only downer on the night was an injury to Ricky Ravenhill, one of six changes from Saturday. But James Meredith came through his first game since New Year's Day.

9:42pm

And that's it, a home win at last!

9:42pm

Dunne booked, which kills more time.

9:40pm

Hanson holds ball up for Reid but his cross-shot heads into orbit!

9:38pm

City corner, their sixth, will eat into that.

9:37pm

Six minutes of added time because of the injuries. Plenty of work to do yet.

9:34pm

Crowd is 8,047 with just 68 from Wycombe.

9:32pm

Wells coming on for Thompson, who has run himself ragged.;

9:31pm

Wycombe corner with five minutes left is headed wide by Winfield.

9:27pm

Surging run from the veteran Ainsworth but he is forced out for a goal kick.

9:24pm

Play stopped for another injury. This time it's Wycombe's Dean Morgan and he's being subbed by Junior Morias.

9:18pm

Ravenhill limps off in pain to be replaced by Doyle. Deserves the applause because he has played well.

City also replacing Hines with Atkinson.

9:15pm

Brave block from Ravenhill but he stays down banging the ground. Davies gets involved with a couple of Wycombe players.

9:12pm

Ainsworth on for Grant, 66min

9:11pm

Thompson's lofted cross nodded back across danger zone by Hanson and just too high for McArdle flying in.

9:10pm

Gareth Ainsworth gets ready to bring on Gareth Ainsworth... as City win another corner.

9:09pm

Great skills from Reid to get past Harriman but Hines beaten to the header at the far post.

9:07pm

Wycombe chance to break loses its impetus and ends with a half-hearted shot by Morgan.

9:04pm

Doherty defends well to toe the ball away from Hanson as he looks to latch on end of long pass forward.

9:02pm

Hanson left-foot volley wide.

9:00pm

Ravenhill works hard to keep the ball alive in Wycombe box after Reid cross is half cleared. It gets the crowd going again.

8:59pm

Wycombe fans making some noise as their side pick their game up. That miss was a warning for City.

8:55pm

Massive chance for Wycombe as McClure heads over from six yards out.

8:54pm

Corner flies through to Thompson but he cannot get hold of his shot.

8:54pm

Thompson turns Winfield and whips in dangerous cross which Wycombe put behind for another City corner.

8:53pm

Wycombe win back-to-back corners but Davies is there to nod away.

8:53pm

Bit of an early scare as Doherty flicks on Wycombe free-kick but City counter quickly and good skills from Thompson sets up shot that doesn't miss by much.

8:50pm

Here come the visitors. No sign of any subs from either side.

8:49pm

City back out already but no sign yet of Wycombe.

8:34pm

City good value for their lead as we reach half-time.

8:30pm

Meredith drills cross towards near post but Thompson a bit slow to react and Archer is down to gather.

8:27pm

Good effort from Hines flies wide - but close enough for the keeper to move across anxiously.

8:25pm

Considering there are very few Wycombe fans here, they are making a decent noise at the moment. A drum always helps though

8:24pm

Wycombe keeper Archer looks unconvincing coming for a Jones free-kick but defence get the ball away.

8:23pm

8:23pm

8:17pm

Wood header held by McLaughlin after Meredith given slip by Scowen.

8:13pm

Meredith and Reid link on left and winger's cross turned wide by Thompson with the outside of his boot.

8:12pm

Parky's words about showing more bravery and hunger in the box seem to have sunk in.

8:11pm

Meredith throw-in cleared out to Reid on angle of box and his first-time shot takes deflection for another corner.

8:09pm

8:07pm

Now Morgan has a go. His well-wide shot is greeted with wolf whistles

8:06pm

Scowen turns neatly to shoot but effort from 25 yards lacks power to trouble McLaughlin.

8:04pm

Reid flashes snap shot wide as City continue to play with momentum. Crowd right behind them.

8:01pm

Ravenhill sums up City's fight with a no-nonsense challenge to close down on halfway. Welcome edge to home side tonight.

7:57pm

That's the first time City have scored in a first half since they won at Wycombe last month - seven games ago.

7:56pm

Another Wycombe corner as visitors look for quick reply.

7:56pm

Wycombe respond with a corner but firm header from Davies clears.

7:54pm

GOAL! Reid free-kick nodded back again by Hanson and THOMPSON forces it through crowd of players.

7:54pm

Darby flattened to side of Wycombe box. A chance for City to keep up their early pressure.

7:52pm

It was Harriman who cleared off the line from Hanson. City so close to scoring in the first minute as they did at Wycombe last month.

7:48pm

Hanson header at far post is blocked on the line for another corner.

7:48pm

And Thompson immediately wins a corner after 18 seconds.

7:47pm

Roar greets the kick-off as City get us underway.

7:34pm

7:06pm

City's back four tonight have played together once before this season in the dramatic 3-2 win over Burton in the Capital One Cup third round.

7:02pm

7:02pm

6:57pm

Wycombe player/manager Gareth Ainsworth has named himself on the bench.

WYCOMBE: Archer, Harriman, Winfield, Doherty, Dunne, Grant, Scowen, Lewis, Wood, Morgan, McClure. Subs: Ainsworth, Oli, McCoy, Kuffour, Morias, Hause, Ingram.

6:50pm

6:49pm

6:47pm

James Meredith features for the first time since New Year's Day as Phil Parkinson again shuffles the City pack.

There are six changes from Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Exeter which really hampered their hopes of catching the top seven.

The most significant switch is in goal where Jon McLaughlin returns after Matt Duke's struggles at St James Park.

Rory McArdle replaces Michael Nelson at centre half and Meredith, now over his glandular fever, is in at left back.

There are three new faces in midfield with Kyel Reid, who had a stand-out appearance as a second-half sub at the weekend, Zavon Hines and Ricky Ravenhill all involved from the start.

CITY: McLaughlin, Darby, McArdle, Davies, Meredith, Hines, Ravenhill, Jones, Reid, Thompson, Hanson. Subs: Connell, Wells, Nelson, McHugh, Atkinson, Doyle, Duke.

6:38pm

Good evening and welcome from the Coral Windows Stadium as City try again for their first home win in 2013.

Team news will be available very shortly although Phil Parkinson has already confirmed that both James Meredith and Kyel Reid will be starting.

3 points is 3 points and welcome points. But how poor we're Wycombe? From memory worse team at VP this season?

Irrespective of only winning 1-0 City looked better then I have seen recently especially for about 60 mins of the 90.

Still doubt we have enough goals in us to get us to play off's

Great first half hour. Thomson and Hanson were excellent. Shame we played kick and rush after that. Can we get at least one decent winger for next season please.

Agree about the wingers, they have both been disappointing this season. Hines can't beat any one, Reid can but looks to cross to early? I rate Omar over both of em!!

Re: Davies- Why not? He's the best player in our squad. The only good thing about tonights game was seeing our best back five on the field at the same time playing exactly where they should play.

Extremely welcome three points but oh dear. City made the fans sweat to the end. before they were secure.

In truth, ths was far fro convincing stuff and leave more questions than answers regarding the complexion of the team NEXT season. If the fans were looking for a 'watershed' game whhe team 'convince' they can take the eason 'by the scruff of the neck' and go on an undefeated run of say 10 games, this hardly was THAT. Yet that has been precisely what 'PP' and tge supporters have been hoping for throughou 2012/13 (and what did in the promotion play off season of 95/96. It's also what City will HAVE to do, the NEXT time they are serious contnders for promotion.

Simon Parker's words above, "..first home league win..of the year" (in March!!) surely explains why we are WHERE we are!!
