John Hendrie calls for Phil Parkinson pay incentive at Bradford City

Phil Parkinson’s new City contract should be based around the division they are in, according to John Hendrie.

The former Bantams winger believes Parkinson will take up their offer to remain at Valley Parade.

Parkinson continues to be linked with the vacancy at his old club Reading, who are thought to be interested in talking to him. But City keep stressing that no approach has been made.

He is currently mulling over City’s contract offer with the League Managers’ Association, who have got involved with the talks because his agent fell seriously ill.

Parkinson is rumoured to be one of the lowest-paid managers in League Two. Hendrie, who acts as an advisor with player deals, believes an improved contract does not have to mean the club taking a financial risk.

“Contracts can be done where it’s structured depending on what division you’re in,” said Hendrie.

“So say, for instance, with a three-year deal, the first would be based on League Two, the second on Two or One and the third One or above. You’d be rewarded for the division you’re in, whether it’s the Championship down to League Two.

“You’ve got to pay accordingly to what league you are in.

“Bradford have had two administrations to their name and the last thing they need is unrealistic contracts, whether it’s with players or managers.

“Too many contracts are structured to higher divisions and that’s why clubs are hitting the wall. Some of these deals can be a noose round your neck.

“The fairest way is that you’re paid for how well you’ve done at that level. There’s no reasons why you can’t do contracts like that.

“You’ve got to look at the bigger picture for the benefit of the club and the individual, whether it’s the manager or a player. You can always introduce bonuses for good cup runs or doing well in the league.

“Phil has done well and I’m sure City want to keep him. Getting to Wembley was an absolutely magnificent achievement but they are still a League Two club at this moment in time.”

Keeping Phil Parkinson is a must for this club.
We need stability for years to many managers ,players have walked in and out of valley parade .
Most sensible Cty supporters realise the job Phil Parkinson has done is remarkable in just short of 18months.
Time for the board to structure a deal that's affordable but also attractive enough for Phil Parkinson to stay.

Not being funny, but this his very little to do with John Hendrie.

"Phil has done well and I’m sure City want to keep him. Getting to Wembley was an absolutely magnificent achievement but they are still a League Two club at this moment in time"

Seems a bit patronising if you ask me.

We want Phil to stay. He can do a great job, and we need the stability of a (relatively) long term manager.
Next season will be ours. If not, then perhaps we have to look to more radical options.

Got to agree prince. Besides, we still have a chance of the play-offs and cash in the bank to bring in better quality players for next season. Parky doesn't have to be greedy and demand a bigger wage, because he now has the player budget for next season. I for one hopes he signs for at least 2 to 2 1/2. yrs. There is no rush for Parky to sign yet. He needs to be focused on the tough job ahead and try and get us into the play-offs. I understand his contract runs out in june, and the season ends in may, so I think he should wait til then to see if we do get promoted. Let's all remember, while there is a chance, then it's not over until it's over and the fat **** singing. lol.

The club I guess has not had such a solid base in recent years as the present time and a golden opportunity in the coming Spring and Summer months to lay further foundations to creep up the leagues in an orderly and financially stable way . The present management team got us to the Wembley final beating premiership teams along the way, that doesn't happen by luck. Again I say get behind the management team , stop wingeing, and enjoy what is left of the season, shout the boys on , irrespective of where we end up . I live in Torquay and you can clearly see how this club has plummeted ever since Martin Ling had to step aside through illness. If it proves to be all about next year , so be it , it will be somethin to look orward to and exciting I am sure!! On that note, I shall sign off and head up to Exeter for today's game, 40 minutes up the road!!

give him a chance to get another full season without cup distraction and see how it goes.
i find his negative formation annoying at home but lets see if it gets better next season.
only wake up when we go behind.
change of manager means change of squad which we do not want again.
getting anywhere in a cup is all about luck!
ask madrid.

I agree, however my fear is that PP WILL NOT be our manager next season - as i have posted time and time again - too much dithering for two many months and two many excuses. If the board really wanted it to happen they would have been positive and MADE it happen, likewise the same applies to PP.
It's only my opinion, however events can change peoples intentions one way or another, that is my concern as i hope PP stays

1. This is being written AFTER Exeter.
2. Exeter was yet another game where we just didnt turn up..if we played to the managers instructions (as wembley), and elsewhere, i am not convinced-yet!
3. Therefore, If the man is going to stay...a salary plus bonuses for achievement (which based on this year he wont get!!). We will be in this league next season, in which case
4. He needs to sort out his own future with ML and JR, he then needs to spend the next few games working out who should go, and who should come in. IF a certain ADavies is "class", could i point out that "WE" let 4 goals in a saturday with him ON the field. we need 3-4 players who want to be in the fight for the future, spend the "cup run" money well and get rid of the "dead donkeys".
5.My view is that PP should go, he chose this team he is accountable for the lack of success..and lets be real-the team did NOT play on Saturday, it didnt play at wembley and they havent yet managed to win against a top 3 side this season, thats not success

Or base John Hendrie's Subsidies from his 'Suite' at Valley Parade or even the nice little one at Wembely on the fact we are a leugue two side, and pay the men who matter accordingly.
