Wildboars score an unwanted hat-trick against Queensbury A

Undercliffe Wildboars lost out once again to bogey side Queensbury A 18-4 in the semi-final of the Hudson Foster Supplementary Bradford Cup.

Cliffe had lost twice at this stage to Bury previously and had high hopes of turning the tide.

The first quarter proved to be a real arm wrestle in terrible conditions but the deadlock was broken when Bury prop Joe Bryan crashed over for a converted try.

Some telling runs from Cliffe’s Willy Woodhead and Ryan Dean allowed centre Martin Southwell to dive over to make it 6-4.

Bury were to prove too strong, however, and converted tries from Gareth Crowther and Bryan sealed Cliffe’s fate and booked Bury a place in the final.

In the Pennine League Championship Division, Bank Top Harriers comfortably beat lowly Ossett Trinity 26-0.

The game was played in appalling conditions, to the point where, with Trinity not in the game, the referee abandoned it on 65 minutes.

Harriers’ scorers were loose forward Clem Muchiti, centre Jason Gelder, winger Michael Hustler, hooker Jimmy Banks and second row Cam Nelson. Three goals and the man of the match award went to Adam Mitchell.

In Division Seven, Wyke A put in a superb away performance to defeat Illingworth A 422-4.

Scorers for Wyke were Kieran Helliwell, Jordan Longbottom, Curtis Kent and Aaron Priestley. Micky Wormald added three conversions.
