The West Yorkshire and Sweden teams
Rugby union in West Yorkshire have added a new name to their visitors’ book as they hosted the Sweden under-18 squad on their tour of the county.
One of their two matches was against the West Yorkshire under-17 Development XV at Woodhouse Grove and a highly-competitive skilful match ended in a win for the home side.
Pupils at the school James Exley, Lewis Brooke and Tom Fountain, who are currently studying for their A Levels, were delighted to be selected to play for West Yorkshire and play against a national side on their own pitches.
Paul Fountain, chairman of the West Yorkshire player development committee, said: “Everybody enjoyed the game on and off the pitch, with great crowds coming to watch.
“For me the tour encapsulated everything that is great about rugby - making new friends, respecting your opponent and, most importantly, enjoying the experience.”
