Worrying times for Silsden

Silsden could not upset the odds by beating North West Counties League leaders Padiham at home in midweek so they remain just seven points clear of the Premier Division drop zone as they travel to mid-table Wigan Robin Park on Saturday.

These are worrying times for the Cobbydalers as they have lost to both of the clubs in the relegation places in recent weeks, although they have played fewer games than three of the four clubs below them.

Saturday’s hosts are looking for the three points that would see them through the 40 barrier this term, with Silsden being ten points worse off.

Club spokesman Jim Rosser said: “We played well and our keeper Ed Hall had a good game against Padiham – but we just can’t buy a point at the moment.

“We still have Padiham to play away, so the fixtures are not getting any easier. It might be touch and go but everyone at the club expects us to live to fight another day.

“The trouble is that we have lost very experienced players and it is just a bit too soon for the young lads coming through.”
