Victory is vital to boost Wharfedale's confidence

Wharfedale coach Tom McGee makes no bones about the importance of Saturday’s SSE National League One contest at home to Cinderford.

He said: “This is a match we need to win. The players are just lacking that bit of confidence which is required at this level, but a win would work wonders for the remainder of our fixtures this month.”

McGee is calling on Wharfedale’s 16 man – the crowd – to do their bit and come along in force to voice their considerable support, which always makes such a difference.

Cinderford beat Wharfedale 36-23 in November but their away form is no better than Wharfedale’s.

They lie in ninth position, just four places above the Greens, making them one of the sides McGee is targeting to beat.

He added: “We know Cinderford’s game, and we have put in place a game-plan to counter them.”

That plan involves the injection of pace, underlined by the re-introduction of Christian Georgiou at full back, and fans will be delighted to see the return to the starting line-up of prop Chris Steel, who will captain the side on his return from a long injury lay-off.

Although Alastair Allen should be fit and ready, the final line-up depends on fitness tests for one or two other players, so the selectors have named a squad of 22:.

Wharfedale (home to Cinderford) from: T Barrett, L Davies, J Donkin, C Georgiou, J Gough, L Gray, J Tincknell, A Whaites, P Woodhead, A Allen, J Altham, R Brown, S Graham, A Howard, I Larkin, A Myers, J Mason, R Rhodes, D Solomi, C Steel (captain), M Tampin, T Wareing.
