Yorkshire will announce their new name for the Twenty20 and 40-over competitions at the Jorvik Centre in York today - the Vikings.

It will be the fourth name for the county following Carnegie, Tykes and Phoenix.

Carnegie was dropped following the Champions League t20 in October when the sponsorship from Leeds Metropolitan Carnegie University ran out.

Other names under consideration were the Thunder, Steel, Terriers, Tykes and Whippets. The naming rights for Headingley are also up for tender.

One of the Vikings’ fixtures this summer will be a 50-over clash with the MCC at Headingley on June 26, starting at 11am, as part of the club’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

The clash has been scheduled three days after the Champions Trophy final to give the MCC the best chance to field big names.
