Danny Addy is gradually growing into his half-back role and getting better with each passing game.

That is the view of Bulls team-mate Jamie Langley, who saw Addy produce his best display of the season in Sunday’s stunning win at Huddersfield.

The versatile 22-year-old, who filled a variety of roles last term, signed a new one-year deal during the off-season and spoke of his desire to establish himself in the back row, preferably at loose forward.

But Luke Gale’s absence so far this year and Michael Platt’s injury sustained in round two against Hull has seen Addy deployed in the halves alongside Jarrod Sammut.

After a slow start to their partnership, the pair dovetailed superbly at the John Smith’s Stadium as Sammut grabbed a hat-trick and Addy also touched down.

“Danny would be the first person to admit that half-back is not his favourite position,” said Langley.

“But he’s a really good kid and has got a great skill-set. Having all those skills can sometimes be a curse because it means you can play any position.

“He probably prefers to play in the back row but he’s doing an absolutely brilliant job for us in the halves.

“He’s just growing into the position week after week and you can see the improvement that he is making in training and in games. He’s turning out to be a really good player for us.

“I think half-back is one of those positions that you have to grow up playing but Danny is definitely adapting to the role.

“With help from the more experienced players such as Brett Kearney and Jarrod Sammut, his communication and organisational skills are really improving.”

Addy sustained a bang to the head against the Giants but is expected to be passed fit to face Widnes on Friday, while prop Manase Manuokafoa will be assessed after a bang to the shoulder.

Langley says the Bulls must build on the Huddersfield victory with another big performance at Widnes.

He added: “The lads were frustrated after losing to St Helens so there was no better way of putting things right than beating the top side in the competition.

“The challenge is to make sure we don’t sit back now.

“Widnes are coming off the back of a great win against Hull and it’s going to be another tough challenge. We need to be up for it.”
