Battle of Lanes ends in victory for form side
4:10pm Monday 4th March 2013 in Sport By Trevor Adams
In a bad tempered Bradford Sunday Alliance League Division 1B game, Lane Ends deservedly got the better of Inter Mill Lane, winning 3-1 with goals from Dale Howard and Andy Brown.
The hosts have hit a real purple patch and, with games in hand, could still catch leaders Beldon Sports – though White Hart Eccleshill look the team to beat.
Undercliffe beat Woodman Wibsey 2-1 in Division 1A with strikes by Chris Gratten and Nick Scullion.
Swaine Green claimed a comfortable victory at home against Saltaire Rangers in Division 2B, winning 4-0.
Goals came from Chris Edgley, Mark Buckenham, Craig Horsfall and leading scorer Elliott Holmes.
Grass Greener United beat third-placed Salthorn WMC to open up a four-point gap between the two clubs.
A brace each by Adam Boocock and Chris Campbell saw them win 4-0.
In Division 3A, Eccleshill WMC continued their good run of form with their third straight victory, a 3-2 win over Greenwood, who were indebted to their keeper for some excellent saves to keep the score down.
But he was powerless to prevent a Vinny Walker thunderbolt as Eccleshill opened the scoring in the first half.
Greenwood then broke away and equalised before Walker scored a penalty.
Greenwood added another after a quick breakaway before Gareth Taylor’s superb 25-yard free-kick secured the points in the second half.
Cartwright Lister moved back into pole position after beating Black Bull at Northcliffe.
A stunning hat-trick from Chris Royston secured all three points for the Reds in a faultless display.
