City are raring to get Wembley out of their system tonight as Phil Parkinson announced: A new season starts here.

The Bantams come back to earth after Sunday’s Capital One Cup final with a Valley Parade clash against Dagenham, looking to revive their promotion ambitions.

Parkinson is confident there will be no hangover from the 5-0 thrashing by Swansea as they chase a first home win in League Two since Boxing Day.

He plans to freshen up the side following the chastening experience at the hands of the Swans. But loan defender Ryan Dickson is out of his plans after being told he needs an ankle operation that will keep him out for the rest of the campaign.

Parkinson contacted his parent club Southampton with the grim news yesterday after a routine medical check showed Dickson’s ankle injury was far worse than anyone thought.

Parkinson said: “Ryan saw the specialist on Monday with what we thought was a minor problem. Then he was hit with the hammer blow that he needs an operation.

“He could have tried to play on and put it back. But he’s out of contract in four months so it is better for him to get it done sooner rather than later.”

Dickson, who had travelled to Wembley but was not named in the squad, only arrived in the January transfer window after James Meredith was struck down with glandular fever. The left back made six appearances and scored at Fleetwood.

He joins the curse of City defenders that has also claimed Luke Oliver, Andrew Davies and John Egan, who broke his leg while on loan from Sunderland.

Despite the latest injury setback, Parkinson believes the Bantams pack more than enough power in the squad to have a real go in the hectic final two months. With games in hand on the teams above, they are hungry to bridge an eight-point gap to the top seven.

He said: “We’ve got a 15-game season ahead of us. There are a lot coming thick and fast from now until the end but we’ve been used to that. We’ve also got players like Andrew Davies, Michael Nelson and Andy Gray who’ve not played lots of football. They are chomping at the bit to be involved.

“So it’s not all of them that have played lots of games. Quite a few have got plenty of mileage in the tank.

“We’ve got fresh players to go with those in the squad who have been used to playing regularly.”

Parkinson detected an upbeat mood at Apperley Bridge when the players returned to the normal training routine after the hype and excitement of the past week.

“The lads are fine,” he said. “Of course, there’s an element of disappointment because we’ve lost a cup final and you can’t hide away from that.

“But we came up against an outstanding team on the day. We could have played better but it was a massive ask for us.

“We had a good night with our families on Sunday, which was important, and had a light session down there on Monday before leaving.

“The players were back in yesterday and ready to go to work. Everything is aimed towards the Dagenham game.

“We’ve got to be focused on what we’ve got to do. It’s taken me until February 27 to be able to say that we can concentrate on the league – that’s unprecedented at this level.”

Be positive Parky. If we go for three points rather than looking not to lose we can still be back at wembley and this time on a level playing field.

But we must impose ourselves and our better players on the opposition not look to stop them. Draws will not be enough.

Get our wide players driving to the bye-line, get more players in the box etc etc.....

onwards and upwards.....

If anything good came out of the weekend, it is the need for the team to get on the front-foot. Hopefully this is a valuable lesson.

Could go 3-5-2 (depending on how Daggers line up).

Just a feeling that 4-4-2 is more a replica of Sunday and the inclusion of Hines and Reid does not solve the problem down the centre of the park.

I would play Darby, McHugh and McArdle in defence. Use Doyle and Davies as holding midfielders and then allow Turgott, Reid and Hines to get up in support of Hanson and Wells.

It has to start coming through the middle and this has simply not happened.

Now this secondary match is out of the way,(lol) we now have 15 more important cup finals to play in. Now is the time for Parky to get the team on full attack and win as many games as possible. As one or two have already stated playing for draws or trying to avoid defeat is no good now. let's all take our flags and wave them and sing our heads off to every last game. ONWARDS AND UPWARDS.

I could understand the negative tactics on Sunday, it was to be expected to be honest, and it backfired, but hey ho, never mind, I would have been a lot more disappointed if we had lost 5-0 to a league 1 or Championship side, Swansea were great and very professional. BUT ENOUGH ABOUT THAT! 15 games to get ourselves back to wembley, 3/4 games in hand on some opponents, 11 points to make up... Big ask, but do-able! Good luck to the lads... Wouldn't it be great if we could treat all our remaining home games like cup finals and get all the stay aways back after their brilliant weekend at Wembley, and cheer the lads into the playoffs with 13/14/15,000 turning up until the end of the season?

Wishful thinking maybe, but the lads have given us so much v Arsenal/Wigan/Aston Villa/Swansea, wouldn't it be lovely to give something back, with a huge backing, not just tonight, but for every match.

I know £20 per match is a lot of money to some people, and I'm certainly not trying to preach, it would just be nice to see.

COME ON CITY... see you in a few hours

Before setting off for the match tonight may i mention that although we lost 0-5 at Wembley what the media decline to mention is the FACT City had only 10 men for the last 34 mins. that is enough for most teams in a high profile game including pl.teams. also one london reporter stated on monday that the bradford fans cheered ironic anything, including a long range shot from jones which we all know was part of the fantastic love affair for the last 25 mins.also the clear cut corner not given although well over the dead ball line. i sent an e-mail to said newspaper but no reply as yet.So ten men held on to 2mins into xtra time. PS.if one man can get sent off for attitude in a game why not a player for agro against his own team mate? ie.my penalty not yours, push, push, push

I certainly hope it is not bring a friend for free.

Too often we have seen people take advantage of reduced / free offers (e.g. Torquay and Hereford) and not attend following fixtures.

Likewise, for Arsenal, Villa and Swansea; people proving they have the cash when it suits.

Loyalty is like a gurdle - it should stretch both ways.

The one thing that I would approve of is the re-launch of the flexi-card scheme at £25.00 for a limited period of two weeks.

That would resolve any bickering from stay-aways who have spent the last few weeks spitting their dummies out.

No one has mentioned the differential treatment of Duke/Hart an hour apart in the commiting of offences.

Hart rushed out and threw his arms at the player, bringing him down and giving apenalty away. Not even a booking and remained on the field to save said pen.

Duke was in his own 6 yard box(surprise surprise) and clipped the lad with his boot whilst being full stretched away from the player, not even a booking really and had it been at the other end would probably not have even been a penalty.

This isn't a moan about referees and officials just consistency and fairness across the divisions.

The reason some dont come back might be the fact that when we played Hereford in a reduced price gate and got 18000 fans in we played negative with one up front and drew a game that was there for the taking.
Anyway that was last season and I am right behind parky as he has proved he is a good manager.

I like 3 -5 -2 especially at home, but usually the 3 are all centre backs so it would be Mcardle, Davies and Nelson for me.

Doyle just in front with Jones and Atkinson in centre midfield and Hines and Reid out wide.

Hanson and Wells up top. Now that would be a decent line up!

My whole point!

That is the difference between the 9,500 die-hards compared to those who come along when they can screw a free/discounted ticket out of an already generous regime.

Follow the team through thick and thin. Love for the club is unconditional and should not be determined through a negative performance against Hereford.

Good luck tonight!!!!!
