Park Avenue striker Tom Corner shoot
Bradford Park Avenue 2 Corby Town 1
Bradford Park Avenue made it back to back home wins in the Blue Square Bet North in the late kick off at Horsfall Stadium.
The Bradford club put back the start of their game by an hour so as not to clash with the Bulls whose Super League game kicked off just over a mile away at 2pm on the same afternoon.
Avenue were certainly not slow out of the blocks as they raced into a two-goal lead before the break.
However, they failed to match their first half performance and almost got caught out.
They opened the scoring in the 17th minute after Richard Marshall had forced a corner with a shot the Steelmen’s keeper could only parry.
Marshall then delivered the flag kick and the ball found its way through to Alex Davidson who just stretched out a leg to toe poke it into the net.
Avenue doubled their advantage just after the half hour and it was just reward for their efforts.
A diagonal cross from Michael Duckworth pick- ed out Tom Corner and the tall striker guided the ball into the net, giving Corby keeper Paul Walker no chance.
Walker was on fine form and he needed to be in the first half as the home side could have been four or five goals to the good by the interval.
They began the second period well and a superb move should have ended with a third goal but Corner poked his effort just wide of the target.
Skipper James Knowles had a later free kick deflected just over and Martin Drury sent in a shot that was just too high.
Corby forced a couple of half chances themselves but it was not until the 82nd minute that they cut the arrears and made it a very nervous ending.
A Tom McGowan cross was slid home at the far post by the unmarked Ryan Semple.
