Bradford Grammar School zone in on impressive triple
Bradford Grammar School is one of only two schools in the country (the other is in London) to have three teams competing in this weekend’s regional finals of the English Schools’ Team Table Tennis Championships.
The pupils are celebrating the success of their table tennis teams with three of the five entered in to the zone finals successfully through.
The under-11 girls were zone winners and played some fantastic stuff to secure their place as one of the final 16 teams in the country. Three of the girls – Melody Seifzadeh, Aliza Khaliq, Anna Cooper and Mahum Sheraz – will also qualify to play for the under-11s again next year.
The under-11 boys played extremely well finishing in third place, just missing out on a place in the regional finals. They won two of their games, drew one and lost two. It was a respectable result for Joshua Poulsen, Sam Young, Karam Butt and Pranav Balabhadra. Two of the boys will also qualify to play again next year for the under-11s.
The under-13 girls were zone winners, defeating Brookfield School, Derbyshire 6-2 and qualifying for the regional finals – the last 16 of the English School Team Table Tennis Championships. A notable achievement, especially as Brookfield had the England No 16, who was beaten by Hibah Mahmood. Madeleleine Silberberg, Hannah Chaudry and Ava Hepworth-Wood also produced valuable contributions.
The under-13 boys finished in fourth place, with three of the four boys playing a year under age. They were Miles Loney, Thomas Young, Joshua White and Nathan Hadaway.
The under-19 boys finished an impressive second and also qualify as one of the last 16 teams in the country. Fraser Riley, Vishal Dattani, Matthew Hull and Greg Cleland made up the successful team.
The under-19 boys will play in Blackburn tomorrow and both girls’ under-11 and under-13 teams will play in Grantham on Sunday.
