It was a good afternoon for Albion Sports in Division One of the Northern Counties East League and that was partly due to their neighbours Eccleshill United.

Albion cruised to a 5-0 win at lowly Appleby Frodingham while Eccleshill beat league leaders Athersley Recreation 3-2.

Hosts United took an early lead through Dylan Stone but Athersley’s Jason Bentley levelled in the seventh minute. The home side soon had the advantage back as Alex Rouse netted after just 12 minutes.

The visitors equalised through Jack Briscoe but the determined Eagles ensured the leaders left with their tails between their legs after Tyson Newall’s 77th-minute winner.

Albion also had an early lead as Karl Hall opened the scoring in the first minute but there were no more goals until the last ten. Substitutes Alex Cusack and Danny Facey were on target before Liam Ormsby opened his account and Hall wrapped things up.

Albion moved back up to third, three points off the summit with games in hand on both Athersley and new leaders Shirebrook Town.
