Baildon cruise to victory at Hessle

Hessle 7 Baildon 48

In the end Baildon swept aside second to bottom Hessle with ease but will be looking to improve their handling and ball retention when facing better opposition in the coming weeks as they look to secure the second promotion spot.

A first-half brace of tries from outside centre Jarrod Huss, which were both improved by stand-off Jake Duxbury, and a touchdown from second row James Fox, added to a an early Duxbury penalty, gave the Jenny Laners a 22-0 cushion at the break.

Hessle showed fighting spirit at the start of the second half and managed to score a try of their own following a good handling move on 45 minutes.

The home side kept Baildon out for the first 20 minutes of the second half but eventually Baildon’s superior fitness proved the difference.

Shawn Stewart secured the winning bonus point on 61 minutes, following up full back JJ O'Connell’s intelligent chip over the cover defence.

Three further tries from No 8 Alistair Beaumont, Duxbury and flanker Danny Pollard completed a convincing win but it was a stuttering performance which the Jenny Laners will have to improve on if they are to compete in Division Two next season.
