Paper talk fired Keighley up for big win, says Graeme Sheffield
Sometimes newspapers can provide the best team talks for an opposition.
Keighley's SSE North One East match at Old Crossleyans last Saturday certainly seems a case in point.
Graeme Sheffield, director of rugby at Rose Cottage, said; "Old Crossleyans said they had lowered themselves to our standard in the local paper when we lost 22-19 there in October, and if that was not disrespectful enough, after we had hammered them - hammered them, not beaten them - 49-12 at our place last Saturday, I could not believe that they were moaning about having a lot of their best players out injured.
"They had two players different in their starting 15 from the side who beat us earlier this season."
"Against Wheatley Hills and Beverley, we said we were beaten by a better side."
Keighley are probably the last team to complain to in North One East about injuries in 2012-13.
Last weekend's win took Keighley out of the relegation places, wich Sheffield is naturally very pleased about, but Saturday's match at Morpeth seems like it will be another battle for injury-stricken Keighley.
Sheffield said: "We are without both of the Sugdens (Leigh and Ollie), Stuart Inman, Danny McGee and Ashley Waligura but this is a chance for Shaun Minikin and Josh Hannah, both of whom had been in the first team but have been left out in recent weeks, to prove a point.
"I cannot fault the effort of the lads who have come in this season."
